Description

The Auschwitz tour from Łódź is a private return trip by car that fits into about ten hours. It starts with an early morning pickup at your hotel. Around three hours later, you arrive in Oświęcim at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, and you return to Łódź the same day. Your group travels in its own air-conditioned car or minivan with an English-speaking driver.

At the Memorial, a licensed local guide accompanies you for up to three and a half hours through both parts of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp. You spend around two hours in Auschwitz I and around an hour and a half in Auschwitz II-Birkenau. Tickets are reserved before the tour. Once the guided visit ends, you have up to an hour for lunch or rest before the drive home.

The guide helps you understand the history behind each place on the route. You hear how the camp was established in 1940, how it expanded and how it functioned until liberation in January 1945. You also hear who was deported there: mostly Jews, along with Poles, Roma and Sinti, Soviet prisoners of war and people of other nationalities. Seen this way, the visit becomes an act of remembrance as well as a lesson in history.
