FAQ – Auschwitz Tour from Vienna
This is a full-day, 14–15 hour pilgrimage. The journey covers approximately 390 km (240 miles) each way, taking about 4.5 to 5 hours per leg. While the day is long, traveling by private vehicle is the only way to visit the Memorial from Vienna and return the same evening, saving you from the logistical complexity of booking international trains and overnight stays in Poland.
Yes. To maximize your comfort for such an early start, the tour includes door-to-door service. Your English-speaking driver will pick you up directly from your Vienna hotel or accommodation in a private, air-conditioned vehicle. At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back at your doorstep, ensuring a seamless and stress-free return after an emotionally demanding day.
Your tour includes both sites, which serve different historical purposes. Auschwitz I is the original camp where you will see the “Arbeit Macht Frei” gate, brick barracks, and museum exhibitions featuring prisoners’ personal belongings. Auschwitz II-Birkenau is the vast extermination site, located 3.5 km away, featuring the iconic railway ramp, ruins of the gas chambers, and endless rows of wooden barracks that illustrate the massive scale of the Holocaust.
Absolutely. We provide “skip-the-line” entrance tickets, which are essential as daily visitor caps at the Memorial are strictly enforced. Upon arrival, you will join a 3.5-hour professional guided tour led by an authorized Museum educator. They provide deep historical context and survivor testimonies that are not available to solo visitors, ensuring a more profound and educational experience.
The Museum maintains strict security similar to an airport. The maximum bag size allowed inside the camps is 30x20x10 cm (roughly the size of an A4 sheet of paper). Larger bags must be left in the tour vehicle. Photography is permitted for personal use in most outdoor areas, but it is strictly forbidden in specific rooms, such as those containing the hair of victims, and in the basements of Block 11.
